Our historic Victorian hostel was originally known as Exemead, being built as a gentleman’s shooting lodge it nestled in approximately 15 acres of its own ground.
Purchased by the Youth Hostel Association in the early 1960’s it become a much loved stop over for walkers, cyclists, equestrians & outdoor pursuit enthusiasts.
This is a small cosy hostel with latticed windows a convivial lounge & fully equipped self -catering kitchen, and relaxed dining area with bags of character to boot! It retains an acre & a half of its original grounds, which are bordered on two sides by the pretty river Exe, making it the ideal location for pitching your tent in 1 of our 8 pitches.
Check in can be up to 22:00 at night but if you expect to arrive after 20:00 you should contact the hostel in advance to let us know.
Exford has a twice daily bus connection with the 398 from Tiverton- Minehead which runs from Monday to Saturday. The open-top vintage 400 from Minehead stops at Exford twice daily on a Tuesday & Thursday throughout the summer months. For those with wheels we have a free Car Park to the front of the property & offer free cycle storage.
Exford itself is a pleasant moorland village with a local store, tea rooms & great pub on the opposite bank of the river. With nearby fishing & horse riding facilities, climbing & abseiling within close proximity, alongside a host of activities offered by south west water at Wimbleball reservoir. Being in easy reach of both the south west coast path & two moors way we are ideally situated for ramblers.
